hi christine,the breatherboxis made to catch any moisture,this is normal.the breatherbox also catches any blowby gases[fuel that bypasses rings and gets into crankcase,also normal].the hose is usually plugged @ factory.in anycase the mixture of water and oily vapors.appears to be an oil leak.when in fact is a normal fucntion of any internal combustion engine.you are supposed to drain these hoses periodicaly.i leave mine unplugged,then you wont have a buildup and no chance of sucking thru carb or clogging filter.hope this helps out your friend and sets her mind at ease,there really is no problem.have fun....giro
